Virtual bike race for PolioPlus

let’s rally this fantastic action set up by Moritz Dick (RC Frankfurt-Airport) , Dr Michael Hanke (RC Bad Homburg-Schloss) and Fellowship Cycling to Serve Deutschland

looking back to the 2019 “Ride To end Polio” in Tucson/Az. the world has totally changed since then. Having had such a phenomenal race in the U.S. with the chance to get you to know would be something extra terrestrial in nower days!

Here in Germany our annual road race ” Eschborn-Frankfurt” on May 1st has been cancelled due to the developments around COVID-19.

But our fundraising campaign “End Polio Now“ is still of major relevance for human health

Whether it’s polio or corona – both types of virus must be strongly fought!

After intensive cooperation with the organizers of the 1st May race, namely the A.S.O. (also the organizers of The Tour de France ! ), we were able to create with the company Rouvy a digital and virtually augmented version of this 40k racing course in Frankfurt.

We resigned to A.S.O. the picture and commercial rights of our video and gpx recordings for free, which we previously captured for an internal cycling team project to make this event happen.

Now in return, our rotarian charity project “EndPolioNow” will be honored in the social media and on televison broadcast before and during this event!

Furthermore we agreed to a polio-donation by A.S.O. of 1€ for every virtual participant on that event.

The good news is that every cyclist worldwide can participate in this virtual race! See the non-augmented preview version of the race- course: 45553

Specifically, on 1 May, „HR“ the local television broadcast channel will report live on this digital race, last year’s real race and the surrounding happenings such as us.

Some professional german cyclists, such as John Degenkolb (Team Trek- Segafredo – Paris – Roubaix winner), will also stream their sporting efforts in their pain caves at home via webcam, Facebook and Instagram.

All in all a very interesting sports event in very difficult times, which nevertheless pushes our polio goals!

We therefore call upon all rotarian cyclists through out the world to participate in this “1st digital May race”. To

do this, you should create an account at and prepare your required internet-capable Turbo Trainer.

Lets make this a united and global rotarian cycling effort to overcome Polio and Covid-19!!!

Further information about the specific inscription procedures and kick-off times will follow as soon as possible. Stay tuned, healthy and at home!
